Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park - 1960s BBQ on the Pedernales River

1960s BBQ on the Pedernales River

Date: May 17, 2008
Time: 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Location: LBJ Ranch

Details:

Sponsored by the Friends of LBJ National Historical Park

Come and enjoy an LBJ-style BBQ on the banks of the Pedernales River as VIP visitors to the LBJ Ranch did in the 1950s and 1960s.

The afternoon schedule of events will duplicate President and Mrs. Johnson`s 1967 BBQ for the Organization of American States:

3:00 - 6:15PM Arrival:

Park gates open at 3:00PM with exhibits and special tours, and a social hour beginning at 4:00PM.

The social hour will include hors d`oeuvres and a welcoming by LBJ Library Actor, Michael Stuart, portraying President Johnson.

This might be the perfect time to hop in the 1967 Lincoln convertible for a photo opportunity and a ride around the ranch.

Everyone will be entertained by live Western Music leading up to a Texas Heritage Show provided by the Ft. Griffin Fandangle at 5:30PM.

The Fandangle from Albany, Texas is described as "Texas` oldest outdoor musical based on the Pioneer Chronicles of West Texas."

6:30-10:00PM:

Following the Fandangle, everyone will dine on the same BBQ menu enjoyed by the 1967 guests.

The location in the Live Oak Grove next to the Pedernales River should provide a magical evening.

After dinner you will be welcomed to continue to enjoy music and dancing as the sun sets on this very special event.

This is a major fundraising event, and the Friends of the LBJ National Park will use the net proceeds to help provide future park activities and educational opportunities to the public free of charge.

Centennial celebrations in Washington, D. C.

Centennial celebrations in Washington, D. C.

The Centennial of President Lyndon Baines Johnson will be celebrated in Washington, D.C. with events held May 19 – 21, 2008. Part of the celebration will include a reunion of former Johnson administration officials and staffers, as well as several panels held in venues throughout the city. One such panel will consist of historians, particularly those who have focused on LBJ, as they discuss his legacy and the impact he had on the nation. Another panel will include many “alumni” of the Johnson administration as they recount their experiences working for President Johnson and how that experience shaped the course of their lives. And of course, a celebration of Lyndon Baines Johnson would not be complete without celebrating his legacy as the “Master of the Senate.” A memorial will be held to honor his role as Senate Majority Leader and the mark he left on that position which still resonates today. Several other events will be held over the course of several days. (Many are by invitation only)
